An interesting memoir of Sizzair from 1964 details how in the 1907 Coupe des Voiturettes, he and his team mate Naudin had won with illegal cars. Sizzair reveals how the race cars had been fitted with steel pistons (rather than the standard iron pistons used at the time) that were capable of delivering a piston speed of 11 metres per second, rather than the organisers decided 4 metres per second. This led to the two cars building up a significant lead over the other competitors, however a small miscalculation resulted in the steel pistons failing in the middle of the race. To resolve the issue the team mates hid in a wooded area and were able to switch to iron pistons in rapid time due to the simplicity of the designs at the time, and continue on to victory.

The event took over 12 hours to complete with the fastest lap being recorded as 52 minutes and 25 seconds, set by French driver Paul Baras.

Although on most of her prints Marguerite would sign her name as M.Montaut, she was known to sign using the code name 'Gamy' which was an anagram of 'Magy.' This specific artwork was actually produced 4 years after Ernest Montaut's untimely death in 1909.  The race was held outside the city of Amiens, with a total race distance of 916.68km. The winner was George Boillot who completed the distance in 7 hours 53 minutes and 56 seconds in his Peugeot EX3, 3 minutes ahead of his team mate Jules Goux.

Held in Sicily, Italy, the race consisted of a 680 mile lap around the island that was won by Felice Nazzaro in his own 'Nazzaro GP' race car. Nazzaro completed the race in a time of 19 hours and 18minutes, over an hour and a half ahead of second place, Giovanni Marsagalia.

The piece depicts a scene from the Third International 500-mile Sweepstakes Race which was held at the Indianopolis Motor Speedway. The race was won by Frenchman Jules Goux in a Peugeot, who was the first foreign-born winner of the event and to this day holds the record for the largest margin of victory over second place in Indianapolis history, with a difference of 13minutes 8 seconds between the drivers.  A motoring legend claims that Jules Goux drank six bottles of champagne during the race - this is likely to be exaggerated (we hope) and in subsequent years officials banned the consumption of alcohol during competition.

Although on most of her prints Marguerite would sign her name as M.Montaut, she was known to sign using the code name 'Gamy' which was an anagram of 'Magy.' This specific artwork was actually produced 5 years after Ernest Montaut's untimely death in 1909.  This piece is one of the teams favourites here at Vintage Supplies, it conveys all the excitement that many modern day motor enthusiasts associate with early 20th Century racing. The depiction of speed, danger, scenic race routes and race googles clearly portrays to viewers the best parts of open wheel racing.  The print itself depicts the 1914 French Grand Prix and is regarded as one of greatest races of the period due to it being one of the first contests between the French Peugeots and German Mercedes. This contest resulted in a victory for Mercedes driver Christian Lautenschlager, who narrowly bested the Peugeot Driver George Boillot - the land speed record holder at the time having reached 99.86mph.
